Adjustable Elastic Waistband

I was working on costumes for a play this week and had to add an adjustable elastic waistband and I thought I would share the method I used with you!

I was using a store-bought pattern that had a pleated waist, but I needed the skirt to be able to fit multiple people. So, I added elastic in the back. I kept the front of the waist pleated as intended.

The elastic has several hook channels and is adjustable. I also attached grosgrain ribbon to extend beyond the elastic, just in case it falls back in the channel.

Supplies:

  • Interfacing
  • Waistband elastic
  • Lingerie hook to fit elastic
  • Grosgrain ribbon (optional)
